It’s an entirely different way of growing plants and Generally root rot is not an issue in hydroponics. without seeing the plant, or knowing what you’ve already tried and how you’ve been caring for it here are some possible reasons the leaves are turning black around the edges:
-Fertilizer burn: basically too much or the wrong kind of fertilizer can cause a burning look to the edges of plants
-Over or Under watering: I know, it’s annoying to hear it could be either but it’s true. Too much water in soil can cause roots to suffocate, grow fungus or not take on nutrients from the oil the plant needs. Not enough water can cause the plant to dry out, which can sometimes present as burned looking edges.
-Fungal growth: If the black edges look more like mold than they do burnt then you may have some fungal growth going on.

If it’s not clear to you the best thing you can do is do a 2 week test for each issue it may be. So, if the issue could be overwatering then refresh the soil and water the plant 1/2 as much as you normally would for two weeks. See what happens. If that’s not it, conduct another experiment on the next possible issue.

Growing plants is indoor gardening, there is a certain amount of trial and error that has to happen. That is how these plants grow! It is a vine so it’s going to grow out over the side of the pot and the leaves and branches will “flow down” the sides! If you don’t like it growing like this then read what she stated in the article about pruning this plant however if you don’t like it growing like this since its a vine I would suggest getting a different kind of plant!
