Fried okra has been family favorite. Anytime we could get our hands on fresh we grabbed it. Mom and Grans hade always used cornmeal or Louisiana Fish Fry. And fried in iron skillet. Moms was always perfect. Didn’t think any other version could beat it. But this is wonderful and I didn’t burn any or fill the house with smoke. Bonus! Father loved it too. I know my Mom and Grandmother’s would of loved it as well. Thank you for keeping this memory alive with a perfect recipe.

I made this recipe as written except for on the second fry, I sprayed the okra with avocado oil rather than tossing in olive or coconut oil. It was absolutely delicious. Next time I’m going to add a little salt, pepper, garlic powder to the flour to give it a little oomph, and I’m going to make a double batch and put half in the freezer to see how they cook up from frozen. This is a keeper! Thank you so much for a great recipe that has made my husband very happy today.

can’t wait…my first orka experience not good….don’t go to pick in in blazin’ Mississippi slun with sleeveless blouse and no crisco on your hands….

This is excellent. I used frozen okra and just cooked a little longer. Tasted better than frying and so much better for you.

Best air fryer recipe for okra I’ve tried. This was a lot like my classic southern fried okra except for the use of bread crumbs instead of corn meal. Definitely much less oil was absorbed (1 TBS vs. 1/3 cup or more). I was pleasantly surprised at how little of the breading fell off into the air fryer. I’ll make this again. Thank you.

I freeze mine fresh, either whole or washed and cut into 1/4-1/2″ slices for soups and stews. Works great and so nice to have in fall and winter!
